A journey to integrate applications and automate redundant security remediation tasks.
I am a 25+ year veteran of the IT Security Industry. I have had the opportunity to grow with the changing solutions and accumulate a large amount of practical experience.
Currently automation via scripting and integration with security tools via API are growing trends and will soon be a required skills.
This site will document my experiences as I learn and implement new Security tools. I will share any Tips and Tricks I pick-up along the way.
One of Today's IT challenges is "spinning" or "tab and monitor fatigue". With the constantly evolving Threats come new security tools, security consoles and dashboards. For Security Analysts this means more open browser tabs, more monitors and less efficiency..
Many Alerts and Applications will have common remediation tasks. Changing AD passwords, adding user or computer to AD group and managing AD permissions are just a few.
Automating common tasks as the number of security Tools grow will prevent Analysts 'burnout' and lead to a better security posture as more focus is given targeted attacks.
There is an answer for those willing to invest some extra time up front.
Today's scripting languages make easier for non-programmers, like myself, to write and develop functional solutions to repetitive tasks. As you will quickly discover, languages like Python, JavaScript and PowerShell are similar enough that you will be able to jump between them and select the easiest for task at hand.
Many Application today offer scripted integration via an API. Someone with even a limited understanding of a scripting language can leverage these integration to automate common tasks.
And the journey begins .... Welcome!
