Privacy Policy

1. Who is responsible

Stephen Sullivan, Sole Proprietor is responsible for the information described here. There is no company behind this, no staff, no analytics team and no marketing department — one person runs a game for friends and family. Contact: ai.theboltslife@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

Only what the game needs in order to work:

WhatWhy it is neededYour nameTo address messages to you and to label your row on the leader board.Your email addressTo send invitations, reminders and recaps by email, and to receive your picks.Your mobile numberTo send and receive the same by text, if you chose the text channel.Your channel preferencesWhether you want email, text, or both — so we only use what you agreed to.Your consent recordThe date, time and wording of the opt-in you gave. Kept because messaging rules require us to be able to show that you agreed.Your picks and scoresThe player you chose for each game and the points it earned. This is the game.A message logWhich messages were sent to you, over which channel, and whether they were delivered — so a missed invitation can be found and fixed.Your repliesThe text of what you send back, because that is how a pick or a command arrives.

What we do not collect

  • No payment information of any kind — no card, bank or billing details. Nothing is ever charged, so there is nothing to collect.
  • No government identifiers — no Social Security number, driver’s licence or date of birth.
  • No location data, no device identifiers, no advertising IDs.
  • No browsing or tracking data. These pages set no cookies, run no analytics, embed no trackers, no pixels, no social buttons and no third-party scripts, and load no fonts or images from anywhere else.
  • No contacts, photos, files or anything else from your phone.
  • No sensitive categories — nothing about health, finances, religion, politics, ethnicity or sexuality.

3. How we use it

Your information is used for exactly four things, and nothing else:

  1. To send you the game messages you opted in to receive.
  2. To record and score your picks and keep the leader board.
  3. To answer you when you send a command or a question.
  4. To honour and prove your consent and opt-out choices, as messaging rules require.

It is never used for profiling, automated decisions about you, advertising, analytics, research, model training, or any purpose you did not sign up for.

4. Who can see it

Information stays within the opt-in group. Concretely:

  • Other participants see your name, your picks, and your score on the leader board and in the puck-drop and recap messages. That is the whole point of a pick’em game.
  • Other participants never see your email address or your phone number. Messages are addressed to each person individually — nobody is ever placed on a shared To or CC line, and there is no group text thread.
  • The operator sees everything listed in section 2, because he runs the thing.
  • Nobody else sees any of it.

5. We do not share, sell or rent your information

Your information is never sold, rented, traded, licensed, leased, syndicated, published, posted or disclosed to any third party. There are no marketing partners, no data brokers, no affiliates, no advertisers, no sponsors and no analytics vendors, because there is no business here to have any.

The only exception is the plumbing that physically carries a message to you:

  • your mobile carrier and the messaging provider that hands the text to it, which must see your phone number and the message text in order to deliver it;
  • the email provider that carries the email, which must see your email address and the message for the same reason.

These providers act only to deliver the message, may use it only for that, and are given nothing beyond what delivery requires. No provider is ever given your opt-in or consent data for any purpose of its own.

We would disclose information if a valid legal order compelled it. Nothing of the kind has ever happened, and given what this is, we would be astonished.

6. Where it is kept and how it is protected

Everything lives in a single file on a private machine on the operator’s own home network. It is not on a public cloud service, not on a hosting provider, and not reachable from the internet. Specifically:

  • The database file is readable only by the account that runs the game, in a directory that is closed to every other account on the machine.
  • The dashboard that manages the game is not exposed to the internet at all.
  • Messages arriving from outside are treated as untrusted: a reply is acted on only when the mail server has verified that the sender is genuine, so a forged message claiming to be you is rejected and flagged.
  • Automated replies, bounces and out-of-office messages are recognised and never answered, so the system cannot be made to loop.
  • Rate limits cap how much can be sent to any one person and in total.
  • Credentials are stored with restricted permissions and are never committed to source control or published.

No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim this one is. What we can say honestly is that the data held is minimal, is worth very little to anyone, and is not exposed to the internet. If a breach ever affected your information, you would be told promptly and directly.

7. How long it is kept

  • Your contact details and preferences are kept while you take part.
  • The text of sent messages is trimmed automatically after 30 days; only a short record that a message was sent remains.
  • Picks and scores are kept for the season’s history and the leader board.
  • Backups are made nightly and rolled off after about two weeks, so a deletion is fully gone from backups within roughly a fortnight.
  • Opt-out records are kept after you leave — just enough to make sure we never message you again by accident. That record is a phone number or email and the fact that it opted out. Keeping it is what makes the opt-out stick.

8. Your choices and your rights

You are in control of all of this, and no request will be questioned:

  • Stop the texts — reply STOP to any message. END, QUIT, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE and OPT-OUT all work.
  • Stop the emails — reply OPT-OUT to any email.
  • Change your channel — email us and ask for email only, text only, or both.
  • See what we hold — ask, and you will get the full contents of your record.
  • Correct it — tell us what is wrong and it will be fixed.
  • Erase it — ask to be removed and your record is deleted, keeping only the minimal opt-out marker described above.

Send any of these to ai.theboltslife@gmail.com. Requests are handled personally, usually the same day. We do not charge for them, we do not retaliate for them, and we do not need a reason.

9. Children

The program is for adults aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and there is no public way to sign up. If a minor was enrolled by mistake, tell us and the record will be deleted at once.

10. Changes to this Privacy Policy
